During the months of construction on Prospect Lake Rd, and the West Saanich intersection, this area was used to park the construction trailer, trucks and heavy equipment. Our small native landscape became very disturbed ground, with an extensive thicket of thistles.
Here are two photos of the Thistle having taken hold, blooming, just before they would set seed.
Here we see Bryan, photo by Anne Allen [his co-worker], standing next to the tarp full of Thistle. They spent a couple of hours on a Saturday morning preventing the thistle going to seed.

Looking down at Tod Creek from Lohr Road, we can see the stream is impeded by a build up of Reed Canary grass, Yellow flag iris and various other invasives, plus one Skunk cabbage. Below, we can see the blockage being cleared.Justin Budyk, of Peninsula Streams, helps with the clean up; to the right are Lori, Kitty and Winona.Justin Budyk.Colourful slug saved from the diggings. For perspective, the slug sits on Justin’s hand; perhaps a “Roundback slug”, I will send this photo to iNaturalist and update when I hear back. Bernie Bowker, Mary Haig-Brown and Carmel Thomson lifted the buckets up into the garbage bag containers for Justin to remove later. Today’s crew: Justin, Lori, Carmel, Winona, Mary, Audrey and Kitty. Bernie has left by this point.
